Behind-the-scenes with Wendy Ward Design

We kicked off the first ever recording of our podcast with the talented Wendy Ward Design. Her design studio is based on her parents' farm in the verdant Northern Irish countryside.  In a little silver car, we turned off the motorway and headed down winding country lanes until we reached the red door, and we were early too!

Wendy's studio was gorgeous, functional and minimalist with white being the key colour and tying in to her beautiful porcelain pieces. Wendy took us through the process of making her pieces - from the moulds to the cutting and finishing.

We asked Wendy about the easy and more challenging aspects of running a design business as well as her advice for those looking to start-up.

“I think it's important to have a niche.  Its important to think, ‘what are people buying, what are the trends?'”

We also asked her about her exciting new collaboration with Belleek Pottery, a company renowned for the quality and craftsmanship of their work for over 160 years.

On Wendy's collaboration with Belleek Pottery:

"I was approached to design a collection which would be launched for their anniversary. I was really privileged to do that as I was the first ever designer that they have collaborated with to combine both brand names.”

Our interview with Wendy will be out at the end of March and we can't wait for you to hear it.
